There’s been a lot of crime going on around job sites lately. Many owners of utes and trucks are falling victim to theft. I would not be surprised if there were people out there who lurk around job sites, waiting for there to be no one near so they can strike. I think I’ve figured out how these criminals operate. They see a ute and stake it out so they can steal the tools and then sell them online to make money. Tools, power tools in particular, can be worth quite a bit so I have no doubt that these criminals are making a stock of cash on these crimes.
Many of my workmates have been stung by this spree. One of them even saw his tools for sale online but unfortunately could not do much about it as he didn’t file a report when the crime initially happened. Apparently, if he filed the crime and reported a list of items that had been stolen, he could then use this list as proof that the items online were his. As he, unfortunately, did not have this, he was unable to prove the tools belonged to him.
This incident has inspired me to start looking into extra security for my tools. I’m looking to buy a half canopy online so I can have a secure place to store my tools. The half canopy I’m currently researching is made out of a very sturdy aluminium that is difficult to penetrate with a crowbar. These canopies also have great locks that will help keep my tools safe and secure.
I am someone who doesn’t mind going on a small trip to the pub after a hard day’s work. It turns out the pub is also a red zone for people breaking into utes. All I know is that I’d love to see them try once I install my ute canopies. Melbourne might have some dodgy people but you’ve got to get up pretty early in the morning to trick me. I’ve observed what goes on and have taken precautions. Good luck, criminals!
