I’ll admit, I was reluctant to even entertain the idea of fitting out our office. It had been going strong for well over thirty years, and our employees had never complained. Sure, they were packed in like sardines, and sure I fired everyone who ever brought redesigning the office to me as a suggestion or concern, but I think I would have known if they were uncomfortable. Eventually, my business partner Gary – let’s call him that at least – talked me around, explaining how it could be good for morale and keeping the troops motivated. ‘Now, listen, Steve,’ I’d told him, because that was Gary’s real name. ‘I don’t care if our space is so poorly optimised that the filing cupboard is bigger than the room with the desks in it! I just don’t see how we can justify hiring the best office interior design firm for businesses around…

I am at a literal fork in the road. I’m surprised that this has happened. I didn’t think that I would somehow reach a fork in the road and then have my life come crashing down around me. It’s funny that sometimes real life imitates the emotional turmoil we’re facing inside of us. Things like that have always popped up randomly in my life, but coming up to a literal fork in the road is the most obvious of signs from the universe that I’ve ever received.  I wish that I could find the information that I’m searching for. I need to find it deep within myself which is really difficult because the person that I want to confide in is the reason that I’m facing this inner turmoil. The fork in the road that I’m at isn’t something that can be fixed by someone else. I wish that it…

My boss is really, really mean. And by mean, I mean horrible. I am planning to quit as soon as I find a new job, but the job market currently isn’t very good for job seekers. All of my friends say just to wait it out, but I’m getting a bit impatient. Every day I dread coming into work simply because I know I’ll have to see and talk to my boss. At the moment he’s using me as a personal assistant, even though I’m actually in charge of the company’s administration and I have actual proper tasks to do each day. He has employed this office glass tinting company to come in and tint all our windows, and I have been assigned as the person to guide them around. I don’t mind the workers themselves, since they are all friendly and professional, and come from a really reputable company.…

I grunted under the weight of the heavy fridge, as my brother lined it up with where it was going to fit into the kitchen. ‘Have you got your end?’ I asked, frantically. ‘Yeah, yeah,’ he waved me off, frowning at the wall. ‘That wasn’t convincing.’ ‘I don’t think it’s going to fit,’ he mused, putting his hands on his hips. ‘What?! I thought you measured it!’ ‘I did!’ he protested. ‘Well, I looked at it.’ ‘You looked at it?’ ‘Yeah, it looked fine.’ ‘What do you mean it looked fine?’ He shrugged, like it was obvious. ‘I thought that the fridge would fit in this hole.’ ‘But what did the tape measure say?’ ‘I forgot it in the car.’ ‘So when you went back and got it,’ I huffed through gritted teeth, glaring at him. ‘What did it say then?’ He remained suspiciously quiet. ‘God,’ I growled, heaving under…

‘Is it getting hot in here?’ I asked the three other men stuffed into the tank with me. ‘I wish we could crack a window.’ ‘I don’t think cracking a window would make it less hot in here,’ Reyes smirked from the gunner seat, eyes hidden by the periscope he was pressed against. ‘At least we’d have a breeze,’ Jones nodded at me, acting like he was considering it. ‘If you want a breeze, I can give you a breeze,’ Luca chuckled. ‘NO!’ we all shouted in unison, turning to glare at him. I think I actually saw Jones reach for his holster. ‘We’ve warned you, Luca,’ Reyes said, eyes steely. ‘One more time and we will strap you to the front of this thing.’ ‘It was just a joke!’ Luca laughed again, hands up in surrender. ‘God, you guys are frostier than a car aircon repair in the Arctic.’…
